Rt Rev. Dr Stanley Roman
It is perhaps known to all that Fatima Mata National College, Kollam, rose to become an autonomous institution in 2014. I deem it a privilege to reassure all the stakeholders at this decisive juncture of our pursuit towards academic excellence, equity and access in higher education. The academic power and privilege to design and update syllabi as well as set afloat various innovative self-financing courses is now vested in its faculty and I wish to declare the public that the teachers of Fatima College see this freedom not merely as a matter of hard-won prestige but also as a noble opportunity to guide students to newer and higher vistas of knowledge.
All the infrastructural facilities are also in place to tap their extra-academic potential, heighten their social awareness, nourish their civic sense and enrich their values. In short, the college has geared itself up to provide an ambience that will ensure an all-round growth of the students’ personalities and turn them out into useful citizens of our country. It’s motto Per Matrem Pro Patria endorses Marian devotion as a means to foster social responsibility as it also envisions a spiritual vision of life with emphasis on promoting love towards the mother land and a spirit of selfless sacrifice.
In accordance with the vision of the founder Bishop Jerome M. Fernandez, the college is especially committed to the uplift of the less fortunate brethren of our society. The welfare schemes, in terms of generous freeships and scholarships given to needy students irrespective of sex, community, caste or religion, point to the values held sacrosanct by the institution. These schemes are a testimony to the preferential option for the poor and the marginalized.
The management of the College is committed to translating the vision and mission of the College. I earnestly hope and pray all the newly-admitted students will become valued members of the Fatima Family and contribute their mite to preserving and enriching the unique atmosphere of the College.
