Fatima Civil Service Academy and Fatima School of Foreign Languages were inaugurated by his Lordship, Rt Rev Dr Stanley Roman, Bishop of Quilon, Patron of the College on 09 November 2017. Mr. Christy Fernandez, IAS delivered the keynote address.
Fatima Mata Civil Service Academy
The civil service as a profession has always captured the imagination of youth in Kerala. However, formerly most people used to give up on their dreams of entering the services as they had the impression that they had to be in Delhi to prepare for the exams. The excessive financial burden such institutes placed on students, in addition to the doubtful nature of the selection process, prevented most aspirants from pursuing their dreams. But now the scenario has changed, especially in a coastal area like Kollam and young men and women from different parts of Kollam are flowing to Fatima Institute of Civil Services.
The functioning of the academy is in collaboration with the Triune IAS Academy under the leadership of Mr. Christy Fernandez IAS. Around 80 students have been selected in the first batch, after a screening test. Personalized coaching, with classroom lectures and regular test series, is being imparted to the students. As part of the personality development programme, intense practice sessions are conducted.
Fatima School of Foreign Languages
Learning a new language is a trend that has seen a tremendous rise amongst Keralite students in the last few years. French, Italian, German, Spanish and English are the languages that have gained a lot of momentum amongst the student community. Knowledge of a foreign language is an added advantage for students at the time of placements. It adds another feather in their cap and tips the scales in their favour at times of interview. Great proficiency in languages skills also opens up opportunities in global workplaces. Learning a new language inspires creativity in students. Along with the grammar, vocabulary and other aspects, the students are encouraged to understand the culture and traditions of other countries.
Fatima School of Foreign Languages has linkages with the Pontifical Institute of Theology and Philosophy, Alwaye, and students aspiring to go abroad or wishing to study foreign literature are given the opportunity to study five languages namely French, Italian, German. Spanish and English. Each language is taught in three levels: Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced.
Each level consists of forty hours and fee amount is Rs. 3000. The total number of seats is 30. The classes are ICT enabled and students are given opportunity to interact with native speakers. At the end of each level, exams are conducted to test their proficiency and certificates issued to eligible candidates. The classes commenced in December. At present there are 36 students and the programme is running successfully.
